Nose: The aromas from the PX-Sherry Butt cannot be missed, nor can the smoke, so that smoked raisins, grapes, overripe plums and a wonderfully musty barrel note can be found on the nose right from the start. The latter aroma - the musty barrel note - quickly increases in intensity, making the nose nice and “dirty” and pleasantly bulky. No, no sulfur whatsoever, in case that question comes up. Old leather, dark chocolate, now also blackberries and blueberries. It's fascinating what it's capable of delivering at just five years old.
Palate:A sweet fruit hammer on the tongue, basically a spoonful of fruit compote made from blackberries, blueberries, plums and raisins. Spicy and slightly smoky, the “heavily peated” doesn’t compete with the fruit here. Dark chocolate, espresso, now thyme and tarragon, although the fruit notes are still very active. What's missing is the body. This becomes noticeable when the first wave of fruit attack has rolled over the tongue.
Finish: The rearguard is only a few strong (disorganized): a few fruit notes here and there, some dry spice, mild smoke, a little nougat and toffee.
