Nose: The nose is both fruity and floral to me, red apples come to mind. Not as all encompassing and quite as heavy as the Glenallachie 10 cask strength batch 6 (we had that in the same tasting), but still very good and luring you in to taking a sip.
Palate: Quite spicy (ginger?)! Somewhat more aggressive than the Glenallachie, which is more rounded and Christmassy, but when the punch-packing spice has subsided a little more subtle oak and a sweet note float to the surface.
Finish: The finish is complex. I jotted down “smoke” with a big question mark… But there’s definitely oak and tannins (not bitter though), and some malty sweetness. Even peppermint and butterscotch float by. The finish is rather long and possibly the best part of this dram!
